Tanner Barth joined the WWAY team in September of 2018 as sports anchor. Tanner was born and raised in a small town in southeastern Colorado. He graduated from Kansas State University in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications & Journalism with a minor in Political Science. Before joining the team at WWAY, Tanner was a sports reporter at KKCO-TV in Grand Junction, CO. He has a passion for not only playing sports, but providing the best coverage he can to the Cape Fear. Hoggard girls soccer advances to East Final, while three other local teams see their season end

The Hoggard girls soccer team took another step towards accomplishing their goals of becoming state champions on Friday night. Laney, Ashley, and East Bladen all fell in their NCHSAA third round games at home.

Local soccer teams keep their seasons alive after round one of the state tournament

Close contests were the name of the game on Monday night during the first round of the NCHSAA State soccer tournament. Four local teams picked up wins to advance to the second round on Wednesday night. 

Five Cape Fear area softball teams keep their titles hopes alive after round one

Round one of the NCHSAA state softball playoffs wrapped up and five teams from the Cape Fear are left still fighting for a championship. Pender, East Columbus, Topsail, Laney, and Hoggard all picked up round one wins on Monday night. 

UNCW Men’s Tennis prepared for the NCAA Tournament after winning 7th CAA title

It was a weekend to remember for the UNCW Men's Tennis team. The Seahawks won their 7th CAA championship taking down William & Mary in the title match, 4-3. It was UNCW's first conference title since the 2018 season.
