Burgaw man faces numerous charges following traffic stop

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Burgaw man is facing numerous charges after he drove and ran away from a traffic stop.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, police tried to stop a vehicle Monday just after 10:00 p.m. at 23rd Street and Brandon Road.

After initially stopping, the driver sped off, before crashing into another car at Market Street and Covil Avenue.

He tried to run away but was quickly caught and police found a stolen handgun in his vehicle.

Antonio Mitchell, 46, has been charged with Felony Possession of Stolen Firearm, Felony Speeding to Elude Arrest with Aggravating Factors, Carrying Concealed Weapon-Gun, Assault on Government Official/LEO, Reckless Driving to Endanger, Driving While License Revoked Not Impaired Rev, Resist/Delay/Obstruct, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia, among other charges. 

He was given a $27,000 secured bond.
