Novant Health breaks ground on new surgical center in Leland

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Novant Health is expanding its footprint in Brunswick County — breaking ground on a new outpatient surgery center in Leland on Tuesday. 

The 16,000 square foot facility off US 17 will include two operating rooms and two procedure rooms — nearly doubling the county’s current surgical capacity. 

Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center already houses four operating rooms and one procedure room. 

NHBMC President and COO Heather King-Semple says the new center is a crucial step in keeping pace with the region’s rapid growth. 

“Trying to keep up with the growth in Brunswick County is something that we’re continually focusing on, making sure we have that right access of care,” King-Semple said. 

Novant Health expects the new surgery center to open in 2026.
