Leland man charged with voluntary manslaughter makes first court appearance
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Leland man charged with voluntary manslaughter first appeared in New Hanover County Court on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, 42-year-old Aaron Metcalf allegedly fired a gun multiple times at 27-year-old Robert Sessoms Saturday evening.
The shooting occurred after Metcalf and Sessoms got into an altercation.
Sessoms died from his injuries, despite life-saving efforts.
Metcalf appeared in court Wednesday in person, and members of Sessoms’ family were also present.
Metcalf’s next court appearance is May 15th.
He faces up to 17 years in prison if found guilty.
