NC man charged in fatal wreck in Pender County

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Pamlico County man is facing multiple charges in connection with the death of his godfather.

According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, the accident happened Friday, May 2, at 1:48 p.m. on N.C. Highway 210 near S.R. 1406 (Long Creek Loop Road).

The highway patrol said Donald James Bowling, Jr., 31, of Arapahoe, NC, was driving a small passenger car. His godfather was a passenger in the car and died in the crash.

The fatal victim has been identified as Thanshawn Recordo Howard, 50, of Wilmington.

The highway patrol says Bowling was charged with DWI, reckless driving, open container, exceeding the posted speed limit, improper passing, and a lane control violation. He was also charged with felony death by vehicle. He is being held in jail on a 75,000 bond.

The highway patrol said Bowling did have a prior DWI on his record.
