Hoggard girls soccer clinches MEC title with 8-0 win over New Hanover

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – For the first time since 2022, Hoggard won the Mideastern Conference title outright after beating New Hanover 8-0 on the road Wednesday.

The Vikings started fast with a goal from Brielle Archer just 1:52 into the game. Ellis Kelly added another at the 3:59 mark.

Now the focus for Hoggard goes towards the postseason.

“It feels really great,” Kelly said. “I think everybody’s worked really hard to get here, but we want to go further this season obviously. Hopefully win a state championship. I think we’ve been close every year but we’re really close this year. I think everyone is really determined to go as far as we can and everyone is really excited about the team we have.”
