Anchored in Advocacy event held for foster care workers at the Harrelson Center

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY NEWS) — A networking and education event for those working in foster care was held at the Harrelson Center today in Wilmington.

The event titled “Anchored in Advocacy” was hosted by the Cape Fear Guardian Ad Litem Association and the Foster Pantry.
Foster parents, volunteers, staff with local nonprofits, and social workers were in attendance.

Chief District Court Judge Jay Corpening and District Judge Ashleigh Parker of Wake County also spoke to the audience.
CFGALA president Darlene Powell says the event is a great way for those supporting children in our area to connect and share resources.

She said in a statement “You just never know. On a snow day when we had three days off from school and a child is really having a hard time because school is actually structure for them, you never know when somebody in there might be your lifeline.”

Powell says the organization plans to make this an annual event.
