WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Qatar Airways will purchase 400+ GE Aerospace engines to power their new Boeing 787 and 777X aircraft — the largest widebody engine order in GE Aerospace’s history. GE Aerospace says that it is a major boost to GE Aerospace’s workers in Wilmington.

According to a press release, Wilmington produces advanced and rotating parts that are key to these widebody engines’ performance. This deal supports the nearly 2,000 workers GE Aerospace employs across North Carolina, including in Asheville, Durham and West Jefferson that all play a role in the production and assembly of the engines.

GE Aerospace generates 55 percent of its revenue from selling engines and services to international customers.
