WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Just a year since their inaugural season began, one area club has earned a major milestone.

Port City FC has announced their women’s team will be promoted from the WPSL to the USL W League beginning in the 2026 season.

To simplify, it means the team goes from AA competition to AAA. Another promotion would officially make them a professional soccer team.

The organization began play with a men’s team in 2022 with the women’s club starting up last summer.

Club Vice President Haven Lewis says this is a huge accomplishment for the organization.

“Joining the league has always been a huge goal for us. Executing the goal so early withing the women’s existence is a huge testament of the players and coaches dedication, effort, work put in, sweat, everything. We believe this opportunity will help to heighten the developent of high level women’s soccer within the community.”

The PCFC women will begin their second and final season in the WPSL this Saturday at Legion Stadium.
