ECU researcher tries to find better way to treat Lyme Disease
GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) — An ECU researcher is trying to find a better way to treat Lyme Disease.
MD A. Motableb was granted $1.7 million from the National Institutes of Health to study the spread of Lyme Disease bacteria in the human body.
By studying the movement of the bacteria and why they move, Motaleb and his team hope to develop an antibacterial medication that will be able to directly stop the flow of disease in the body.
“If they [bacteria] cannot survive then the disease is basically cured,” he said.
Lyme Disease affects more than 300,000 people around the world every year — and there are many symptoms to look out for.
