SHALLOTTE, N.C. (WWAY) – In their first game ever as a franchise, the Shallotte Shallywags took down the Hope Mills Rockfish 9-8 on Wednesday.

Shallotte started play in 2025 as part of The Old North State League.

Tied at one in the 3rd, Ryan Yaroshuk hit into a fielder’s choice to send Trace Horne home for the team’s first lead. Soon after, Jude Morton grounded one past first base, allowing Branton Jernigan time to cross the plate.

Then in the 5th, Jernigan scored on a wild pitch. That was followed by an RBI single by Payton Hankins and sac fly from Tate Morris.

Shallotte led 9-1 in the 8th, which is when Hope Mills scored seven runs. The Shallywags managed to hold on to start the season and their franchise history 1-0.
