WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The man accused of stabbing his roommate during a dispute earlier this week has turned himself in, according to Wilmington Police.

Around 10 a.m. Thursday, Alejandro Diaz Lopez, 21, surrendered at WPD Headquarters. Detectives spoke with Lopez before transporting him to the New Hanover County Detention Center, where he was served with a warrant for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. As of Wednesday afternoon, bond information had not been released.

The charges stem from an incident Tuesday evening at 319 Mercer Avenue. Officers responded to a call just before 5:30 p.m. about a dispute between two male roommates that turned violent. Investigators say Lopez stabbed the victim after an argument. The victim was taken to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Wilmington Police issued a warrant for Lopez on Wednesday morning. He left the scene before officers arrived.
