Coast Guard Cutter Diligence returns from two-month patrol

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —  The Coast Guard Cutter Diligence sailed back into Wilmington over the weekend after a two month long patrol.

While they were gone, the Diligence crew helped a man who was attempting to cross the Atlantic ocean from Norfolk, VA to Scotland in a 24-foot rowboat. The boat was damaged in a storm, so the crew repaired the boat and the man continued on his journey.

They also participated in fleet week in New York, and helped to inspect commercial fishing vessels.

One little girl, whose dad was away for her eighth birthday, was thrilled to have him home.

“It feels good because I missed him a lot. Cause I always miss him when he’s gone. And I just love him so much,” she said.

Diligence began her patrol in Little Creek, VA, where the crew took part in the bi-annual training period called Tailored Ship’s Training Availability.

Diligence conducted 108 drills and exercises achieving an outstanding 97.4 percent average drill score.
