WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) – Animal Protective Services at the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says their animal shelter is at maximum capacity.

In a Facebook post, the group says, “Right now, there is not a single empty kennel left in this shelter. Every run, every cage, every corner is filled with a soul waiting for a second chance.”

The shelter cannot accept stray animals except in absolute emergencies.

“We are overwhelmed. We are exhausted. We are heartbroken. And most of all — we are scared. Scared for the ones still out there with no safe place to go. Scared for the ones here who are still waiting for someone to choose them,” the post says, adding, “These animals don’t have a voice, but we do — and we’re using it to beg for help.”

Anyone interested in adopting or becoming part of a rescue can call 910-641-3945 or email here.
