Man charged with indecent exposure and assaulting police officer

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Craven County man was arrested on charges involved with indecent exposure and assaulting a police officer and emergency personnel in Wilmington.

According to the police, the Wilmington Police Department responded to John Batts, 25, who was running down Independence Boulevard on Friday at 2:30 a.m.

The warrant says that Batts assaulted a police officer on the head, which caused a contusion to the right side of the officer’s head and a large slash to the forehead. The officer also tased Batts and took him into custody.

The man was transported to the hospital where he continued to be combative.

Batts was charged with assault on a police officer, assault on emergency personnel, injury to personal property, indecent exposure, resisting/delaying/obstructing public officers, and impeding traffic.

He was given a $150,000 bond.
