Several sanitary sewer overflows reported along Burnt Mill Creek

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Public Utility Authority crews responded to several sanitary sewer overflows along Burnt Mill Creek in Wilmington on Sunday.

CFPUA crews says ongoing heavy rainfall and saturated ground conditions contributed to the overflows.

When CFPUA received the call at 1 p.m. Sunday, pump station crews were reportedly already out monitoring the system.

The locations impacted were Kline Road, 21st Street, and Wallace Park area.

CFPUA says crews conducted pump and haul operations until the spills subsided, and by 2:45 p.m. all sanitary sewer overflows were stopped.

CFPUA estimates that 1,575 gallons were discharged to Burnt Mill Creek.

According to a news release, the area has been cleaned and the spill was reported to North Carolina Division of Water Quality.
