Mom’s text message about car seat helps save son’s life

MEMPHIS, TN (WATN) — The first day back at work after maternity was hard for one Mid-South mom. However, most parents don’t anticipate that their new baby will be in a car accident.

On her first day back to work as a nurse at St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Rebecca Tafaro Boyer told her husband, David, she wanted constant updates on their son William.

“In order to get through the day, I told him, ‘I’m going to need you to send me pictures every hour just, so I see him,'” she said.

One hourly photo recap three weeks ago showed 3-month-old William in his car seat during their trip to Walgreens.

“When I really looked at it I saw that the baby was in the car seat, but the car seat wasn’t really strapped in,” said Tafaro Boyer. “The straps were too loose, and the chest clip was way too low. And because I know my husband, I’m sure that he laughed at me and rolled his eyes before tightening the car seat and fixing the chest clip.”

David told Local 24 he fixed the straps and chest clip.

Minutes later he and his son were involved in a car accident.
