Leland man arrested following gunfire in residential neighborhood

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Leland Police arrested a man Wednesday night after responding to a report of gunfire off Southern Magnolia Drive in the Mallory Creek neighborhood.

According to the Town of Leland, officers were dispatched just after 10 p.m. on June 25 following reports of gunshots in the area.

While canvassing the neighborhood and speaking with residents to determine the location of the shots, officers heard additional gunfire. They were able to identify the source as a residence on Southern Magnolia Drive.

Jacob Merrill Thomas, 32, of Leland, was located at the home and taken into custody.

He was transported to the Brunswick County Detention Center and placed under a $1,000 secured bond.

Thomas is charged with discharging a firearm within Town limits. No injuries or property damage have
been reported.

The investigation remains ongoing.
