Millions of gallons of wastewater discharged in Cape Fear River


CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Millions of treated and untreated wastewater was discharged into the Cape Fear River from Carolina Beach during Hurricane Florence, according to town officials.

Town of Carolina Beach Wastewater Treatment reportedly discharged 17.17 million gallons from Thursday to Monday.

Carolina Beach also had approximately 226,320 of overflows from manholes and Lift Stations that got to surface waters.

The town says these discharges were coordinated with the State of North Carolina Division of Water Resources.
