Operation BBQ Relief serves up thousands of hot meals
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Operation BBQ Relief pulled into Wilmington Tuesday to help those who have been looking for a hot meal in a time of need.
They are providing the community with a full meal including meat, two sides, and a roll.
The operation tries to put out as much food as they can to disaster victims, but if they can help one person they say it is a success for them.
“Today seven years later we were really on our way to reaching our two millionth meal, but the truth of the matter is were not here about cooking millions of meals,” David Marks, chief marketing officer, said. “We’re here to make sure were taking care of that one person that needs that one hot meal. that one hot BBQ meal that is going to make a difference for them.”
By the end of Wednesday night, Operation BBQ Relief expects to have prepared more than 24,000 meals for those in the Cape Fear region.
The crew has set up in the old Kmart parking lot in Wilmington on College Road.
The group says they will remain here as long as they’re needed.
