Seven public beach accesses closed for repairs in Carolina Beach
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (Press Release) — Planning department staff have inspected every Carolina Beach public beach access to assess damages caused by Hurricane Florence. Seven (7) accesses have been determined unstable or destroyed, and will be closed for public use until repairs are completed. A list of closed beach access locations is listed below:
1. Sea Oats
2. Sand Fiddler
3. Sand Dollar
4. Seahorse
5. Sandpiper
6. South Carolina
7. Alabama
Five (5) beach access sites will require maintenance and/or sand reinforcement, and remain open at this time. Please exercise caution when using the following public beach access locations:
1. Oyster Shell
2. Boardwalk Beach Access Points
3. Ocean
4. Texas
All other public beach crossovers were minimally impacted from the storm. However, there are several sand-style access points that may have steep drop-offs due to erosion (escarpment). Please exercise caution when using these sites.
Please note that it is unlawful for any person to traverse or travel upon any frontal sand dune at any location other than a designated walkway or pathway. Beachgoers should not walk or climb on any portion of the dunes to gain access to the beach.
