NCDOT prepares for 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Department of Transportation is gearing up for this year’s Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Assistant Division Maintenance Engineer Jessi Leonard says the NCDOT is inventorying equipment like signs and barricades, and making sure trucks and chainsaws are ready to go.
Division three—covering New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, Onslow, Duplin, and Sampson Counties — usually faces the most storms during hurricane season.
Leonard says staff plan for the worst while hoping for the best.
“We have folks on continuously, before during and after the event,” she said. “So, once the event hits, then we use not only our maintenance crew, but also we utilize construction, project development to help in the response of those.”
Locally, there are more than 300 workers on the maintenance staff ready to respond.
