More details released on woman charged with 93 counts of animal cruelty

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is revealing new details about a woman facing animal cruelty charges after seizing nearly a hundred animals from her home.

In the past, we have reported on Deborah Ross Dahl, 70, who allegedly performed unlicensed surgery on a dog.

The sheriff’s office is now revealing how Dahl allegedly had dozens of animals living in deplorable living conditions.

The investigation started around memorial day with a welfare check at a house in the 300 Block of Pone Hill Road in Hallsboro.

Dahl was arrested on June 24th.

The sheriff’s office worked with ASPCA to seize 76 dogs and 14 rabbits.

The sheriff’s office now says they rescued two cows and two donkeys during a second search nine days ago.

Dahl is charged with 93 counts of animal cruelty in what the sheriff is calling “the largest animal cruelty operation our agency has ever taken on.”
