Crews work to restore Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson weeks after storm

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Back on October 9, we told you that Brunswick Town Fort Anderson would remain closed until mid-November. That hasn’t changed, but workers were seen cleaning up the property Wednesday.

Site Manager Jim McKee says workers were emptying the gift shop area, which was not damaged by rain, but had mold buildup after sitting for days with no power in a humid environment.

He says crews will be coming next week to begin removing some of the 52 trees that were lost in the storm.

He says some of those trees like oaks and hickories will be given new life.

“What we’re gonna do is we’re gonna cut them up into 16 foot links, save that wood and let it season,” McKee said. “Our department has a portable saw mill and what we’re gonna do is have those milled into lumber so we can make interpretive tables, chairs, interpretive props for our programs.”

McKee says none of the exhibits or artifacts were damaged and he looks forward to reopening.

He says the Christmas program in December is still on.
