Wilmington narrows field for next police chief after closed-door meeting
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council held a special meeting Monday to sit down with the candidates for the new Wilmington Police Chief.
The meeting was held in a closed session but according to Mayor Bill Saffo, the council is able to start the evaluation of who they thought was the best candidate.
Saffo adds they are narrowing down the scope and met with a lot of good candidates on Monday.
It will be about a three-week process before a decision is made.
This comes after former Chief Donny Williams retired at the end of June and former Police Chief Ralph Evangelous was appointed interim chief.
