Two suspects wanted in Dollar General store armed robbery

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Columbus County sheriff’s deputies are looking for two suspects who were involved in an armed robbery late Monday night.

The robbery was at the Dollar General at 25 Dock Road in Whiteville and occurred around 9:41 p.m.

According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, the suspects concealed their identity with face coverings and both were armed with a weapon.

The suspects demanded cash from the store safe which operates on a time delay. The suspects then waited for it to open and stole an undisclosed amount of money.

Shots were fired inside the store in an attempt to damage the surveillance system. No one was injured.

A short time later, a sheriff’s deputy who was pursing a suspicious vehicle was involved in a crash. The deputy received minor injuries. The NC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
