Final weekend for New Hanover County Public Library before relocating

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Main Library in downtown Wilmington closes Sunday so preparations can begin for its relocation to the new facility.

The closure will give time for staff to move books, equipment and computers to the new location on Grace Street. This location is set to open in October, but an official date has yet to be announced.
People took advantage of this weekend to get a last look at the library to check out books.
Matthew Davis went to the library with his family on Saturday for the last time.

“They had a pretty good children’s section and having a seven-year-old it’s good to have a good selection of kids’ books and they had that here. So, hoping the new branch has something similar,” Davis said.

The Grace District Complex will also be home to the Cape Fear Muesum. County officials note that this portion will not be open until the summer of 2026.
