SC AG rules self-defense in road-rage killing of Tabor City man

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson on Wednesday ruled the 2023 road rage killing of Scott Spivey in Horry County by a North Myrtle Beach businessman was self-defense.
Wilson made his finding public in a news release, saying the state’s stand your ground law was applicable after a “thorough review of the investigative file” provided by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
“The legal analysis of this case was reviewed by multiple career prosecutors within the Office of the Attorney General, who all reached the same conclusion,” Wilson said. “We have continued to review all information and evidence provided to us by law enforcement, including eyewitness statements, toxicology reports, video evidence, and forensic analysis. Our analysis has remained the same.”
Spivey, 33, of Tabor City, died in a Sept. 9 shooting along Camp Swamp Road in the Loris area. He was involved in an altercation with Kenneth Williams and Weldon Boyd, owner of the popular Buoy’s on the Boulevard.
