NC AG Jeff Jackson leads nationwide taskforce to curb ‘robocalls’
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson is helping lead a nationwide effort to crack down on robocalls.
52 attorneys general across the country are teaming up for an initiative they’re calling operation robocall roundup.
The purpose is to target telemarketers who use artificial voices to lure people into giving away money, or their personal information.
The FCC is also helping the task force by making it harder for bad actors to route their calls in the first place.
Jackson says he’s not just going after robocall companies, but also 37 telecom companies that he says are complacent.
“We’re not just going to go after the folks who are doing the robocalls. We want to go after the telecom companies who we think are being complicit,” he said. “The ones who are turning a blind eye. The ones who know better, and are not following the rules that have been set out for them about how to protect all of us from robocalls.”
