Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office warns of phone scam

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement warning that another phone scam is making its way through the community.

According to a Facebook post, a person receives a phone call claiming to be a Brunswick County deputy.

The caller states the recipient has warrants out for their arrest or that they owe money to the government.

The person is then instructed to wire money.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office says this is completely a scam and that they do not call to request money from residents for any reason.
