Medical experts recommend vaccinations before school starts

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — With the start of school around the corner, medical professionals are urging parents to get their kids vaccinated.

When kids go back to school, they’re surrounded by a large number of people of different ages with some who are fully vaccinated and others who are not.

The centers for disease control and prevention says vaccines can prevent the spread of disease in your family and the community.

Katelyn Kennedy is a family medicine physician with the Coastal Family Medicine Residency team.

She says vaccines are most effective when they’re administered during a child’s recommended age range.

“So, it’s important to stay up to date with your annual well-child visits and your annual physicals to make sure you are on-top of all the required immunizations and the recommendations for your age.”

Doctor Kennedy suggests if you have questions or concerns about vaccinations refer to your primary care physician. She adds the CDC website can be a good resource.
