Residents at The Cape discuss future of Masonboro Golf Club
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Masonboro Golf Club closed indefinitely back in the fall, leaving residents wondering what would happen to that land.
Neighbors held a meeting Sunday to discuss possible options for what the golf course could become.
Some residents are concerned that the owner will build over all of the green space. Resident Joyce Edwards says the owner has come up with several options for the land.
The first option is that the owner can build on part of the land and create a nine-hole golf course out of the inner circle green space.
The second option is that the owner can build on part of the land and sell that inner circle of green space to The Cape HOA.
The third option is that the owner can sell the whole course to the HOA.
“Some people say, ‘I’m not sure, I have mixed feelings.’ Others go, ‘I don’t want him building anything on it, period. We want the green space. We want to continue to keep our views.’ However it goes, I do not think we need to spend all the money on the attorneys,” said Joyce Edwards. “I think we need to spend the money on making our decision and moving forward.”
Edwards says the meeting today was to educate residents on what these options could look like. She brought in both a builder and environmentalist to explain what these options could mean for the community.
Edwards says they hope to meet again soon. She says the HOA will eventually create a ballot with options for residents to vote on.
She hopes that the residents can take this information to the owner of the golf course and work towards a decision.
