Southeastern Community College sees 37% enrollment increase

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Southeastern Community College is celebrating some good news this week as the college is reports a rise in the number of new enrollments.

During the college’s most recent board of trustee’s meeting, it was revealed that more than 5,700 students enrolled last year. That’s a 37% increase from five years ago.

The area that saw the most growth in enrollment numbers was workforce continuing education, which increased 114%.

SCC president Chris English says the college is committed to meeting the needs of the community.

“We’re going to continue to focus on what we’re doing right now in growing our industry sector. As the community grows, and we see the technology change, we’re going to hone in on it,” he said.

Those increased enrollments also mean expansions for the college. This fall will offer its first ever lineman program, and later next week the college will break ground on a new education building geared towards the transportation industry.
