Traffic rule reminders for stopped school buses as students begin new year

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Most school systems in the Cape Fear are starting back to class this week.
With that in mind, the North Carolina DMV has posted a reminder of traffic rules to follow for stopped school buses.
For a two-lane roadway, all traffic from both directions must stop. If there’s a center turning lane between the two lanes, all traffic is still required to stop.
For a four-lane roadway with no median, all traffic from both directions must stop. If there’s a median divider on the four-lane roadway, only the traffic following the bus must stop.
Finally, if there’s a center turn lane for four or more lanes, only the traffic following the bus is required to stop.
DMV officials say they hope everyone will follow the rules and make for a safe school year.
