Wilmington hosts 8th annual Sustainable Business Awards

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An awards ceremony held in Wilmington Friday highlighted local businesses that go above and beyond to serve their communities.

Each year, the North Carolina Sustainable Business Council hosts the Sustainable Business Awards ceremony in different cities across the state.

This year’s ceremony was held in Wilmington, where Secretary of State Elaine Marshall gave the keynote address.

Executive Director Vicki Parker-High says the awards ceremony honors businesses that go above and beyond to serve their community, support charity, and protect the environment.

“It is beyond just getting a trophy or a certificate, it is an opportunity to amplify how businesses can be a force for good in their community,” she said. “So, the companies that we’re honoring today are not only building up our local economy, they’re also building up their communities by investing in the people in that community.”

The awards ceremony is now in its eighth year.
