Carolina Beach Police Foundation funds new K-9 for police department

Carolina Beach, NC (WWAY) — The Carolina Beach Police Foundation has approved its largest grant to date, awarding $12,810 to the Carolina Beach Police Department to purchase and train a new patrol K-9.
Police Chief Vic Ward said the additional dog will be paired with a Carolina Beach police officer.
“The additional K9 will be paired up with an officer from the Police Department and provide greater capability for the department’s existing K9 unit by ensuring there is a patrol K9 available to each platoon and directly increase our agency’s ability to interdict narcotics and locate wanted criminals or missing adults/children,” Ward said.
According to the foundation, the grant covers the K-9 purchase, October team training, lodging and food for the handler, and needed equipment. The funding comes after months of community support, including the 2025 BluWater Bikini Bash and Benefit in June. Donations from BluWater supporter Joey Humphrey, Lee Levinson, and the Silver Dollar also contributed. A significant gift from Joe and Jen Starks ultimately helped the foundation reach its fundraising goal.
“The Carolina Beach residents and businesses have been outstanding supporters of the Foundation since our inception in March of 2024,” CBPF President Pete Green said, adding that the efforts of local organizers and donors were critical in making the grant possible.
The Carolina Beach Police Foundation Board of Directors will formally present a check to the police department on Wednesday at the Carolina Beach Police Department.
