Columbus County woman arrested for allegedly stealing money from Cerro Gordo Fire Department

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County woman is behind bars after allegedly taking more than $70,000 from Cerro Gordo Fire Department.

According to a press release, Tonya King worked at the fire department as Treasurer, Secretary, and an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and she was arrested Monday, September 22nd.

Following a review of financial records and extensive investigative work, deputies determined that King had been taking unauthorized funds from the department beginning in March of 2015.

King now faces 26 felony counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretense. After her arrest, she was presented before a magistrate and issued a $75,000 unsecured bond. She has since been released.
