Gov. Josh Stein to visit Southport Monday following deadly shooting

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Governor Josh Stein will meet with local law enforcement and community leaders this afternoon in Southport, following Saturday night’s mass shooting.
City officials and police provided more details Sunday, saying three people were killed and several others were hurt when shots were fired at the American Fish Company late Saturday. Nigel Edge, 40, was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted first-degree murder.
A vigil Sunday night at Southport Baptist Church drew a standing-room-only crowd, with remarks from Police Chief Todd Coring and Fire Chief Charles Drew.
Along with the Southport update, Gov. Stein is expected to share the latest on Hurricane Humberto and Tropical Storm Imelda.
WWAY will have more on the governor’s visit tonight starting at 5pm.
