New Hanover County opens $55M Main Library next week
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY-TV) –An entire block in downtown Wilmington is being transformed into the new “Grace District.” The district will host the $55 million construction of the New Hanover County public library and Cape Fear Museum.
The 95,000 square-foot building includes two floors of books, computers, multi-purpose rooms and an outdoor terrace. Dana Conners, the New Hanover County library director said this project has been a long time coming.
“I’m so excited the day has finally come,” Conners said. “I think that everyone who walks through the doors is going to be absolutely impressed with this building and excited that this is their library.”
The Cape Fear Museum’s new location inside the public library will feature a planetarium, immersive theater and a changing gallery of interactive activities. The new library will open to the public on Monday on Grace Street between Second and Third Street.
