City of Southport releases names of those injured in shooting at American Fish Company

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — The City of Southport has released the names of the people injured in Saturday night’s mass shooting at the American Fish Company.

The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the bar, located at 150 Yacht Basin Drive. Updated information from the city now confirms six people were injured in the shooting. Three people died.

The six injured victims, who have since been released from the hospital, are:

  • JACKSON SCHURTZ, 38, of Afton, Virginia

  • WILLIAM PARENT, 64, of Oak Island, North Carolina

  • JOHN BARLOW, 63, of Amityville, New York

  • LAUREN BUSCHER, 54, of Wheaton, Illinois

  • THOMAS LAFFERTY, 58, of Oak Island, North Carolina

  • TAMMY HIRT-HUFF, 59, of Oak Island, North Carolina

The three victims who were fatally wounded were previously identified as:

  • SOLOMON BANJO, 36, of Charlottesville, Virginia

  • JOY ROGERS, 64, of Southport, North Carolina

  • MICHAEL DURBIN, 56, of Galena, Ohio

City officials also commended citizens who stepped in to help during the incident, saying many rendered aid to the injured and helped others evacuate safely.

The investigation remains active. Anyone who was at the American Fish Company on Friday, Sept. 26, or Saturday, Sept. 27, and has photos, videos or other information is asked to call the Southport Police Department at 910-457-7911.
