Shallotte Police Department asking for help finding person who allegedly took political signs
SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — The police say that the person is seen throwing some signs in the woods, and he took signs from other locations while placing some in his vehicle.
It appears the vehicle has flashing lights but does not have any identifying decals.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Shallotte Police Department and ask to speak to Lieutenant McLamb.
Shallotte Mayor, Walt Eccard put out a statement about the removal of signs:
“The Town of Shallotte and I have been made aware of an incident that occurred over the weekend involving the removal of political campaign signs within our community.
I want to make it very clear that I do not condone or support the removal, destruction, or tampering of any political signage. Every candidate deserves a fair and respectful election process. I have great respect for my opponent and fully support his right to display campaign materials throughout Shallotte, as permitted by law.
The Shallotte Police Department is currently working with community members to investigate the situation and ensure it is handled appropriately. We encourage anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact the Shallotte Police Department.
Shallotte has always taken pride in being a town that values respect, fairness, and integrity. I ask that we all continue to uphold those values throughout this election season and beyond.
Together, we can maintain the positive and neighborly spirit that makes Shallotte such a special place to call home.”
