Leland Police Department holds its National Night Out
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The Leland Police Department held its National Night Out on Tuesday evening.
National Night Out is an event meant to raise awareness about a variety of police programs, including drug prevention, town watch, and other crime-fighting efforts.
Tuesday’s event was held at Northwest District Park, with hundreds of people coming out to take part.
The event also gives police a chance to speak with and learn about concerns residents have, even though, according to Neighborhood Scout, Leland ranks as one of the 100 safest cities in the country.
Leland resident Angel Vega said he’s never had any concerns regarding the safety of himself and his family since moving here.
“Since we moved here, the community definitely feels safe,’ Vega said. “We see they definitely make their presence known; they’re always around. So yeah, no, definitely feel safe.”
Members of the Wilmington Police Department, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Leland Fire Department, and State Highway Patrol took part, showing off their equipment to visitors.
