Man arrested in New Hanover County on child sexual offense charges

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man on multiple child sexual offense charges.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Michael Eddis Fulghum was taken into custody on September 27 following an investigation launched after complaints were filed by concerned citizens.
Detectives said the investigation revealed that Fulghum had contacted community members in an attempt to solicit minor children for the purpose of committing statutory sex offenses.
Investigators determined Fulghum arranged to meet in person with a 9-year-old girl. Deputies executed a search warrant at Fulghum’s residence, where they found and seized evidence along with illegal narcotics and firearms.
Authorities said Fulghum, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, now faces additional charges related to illegal possession of narcotics and weapons.
Fulghum was booked under a $700,000 secured bond.
