Deputies investigating bank robbery at SECU on Sanders Road

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a bank robbery that happened Thursday afternoon at the State Employees’ Credit Union on Sanders Road.
According to a sheriff’s office spokesperson, the robbery occurred a little after 2 p.m.
The sheriff office says a woman, claiming to be armed, entered the bank and demanded money from the teller. The suspect did not display a weapon during the incident.
The suspect than ran south from the bank.
She is described as a white female, tan skin, between 5’1″ and 5’3″, thin build, wearing ripped blue jeans, white t-shirt, black hat, black and white shoes, and carrying a black bag.
Nearby Bellamy Elementary School was briefly placed on a “secure” status as a precaution due to the police activity in the area. The school later lifted the secure, notifying families that normal operations had resumed.
“The secure has now been lifted, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this time,” the school’s message to parents read. “Buses are currently running their secondary routes and will return as soon as possible. Parents are welcome to pick up their students at this time.”
