Driver located and charged after allegedly crashing into Oak Island utility pole

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — A driver has been charged after crashing into a utility pole in Oak Island and allegedly driving away very early on Thursday, October 9.
Town officials discovered the damaged utility pole around 7:30 a.m. The pole is located on East Oak Island Drive and County Club Drive.
It was snapped after being struck, calling for a full replacement by the government.
After the Oak Island Police Department reviewed traffic camera footage, officials located and arrested James Shaver of St. James.
The 82 year old has been charged with Hit and Run Property Damage after officials determined he struck a utility pole holding a traffic signal with a Toyota RAV4 overnight and left the area afterwards.
