Sea cadets raise 150 flags at Battleship North Carolina on Navy’s 250th birthday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY-TV) — Monday marks 250 years since the United State Navy was established and the Battleship North Carolina hosted a special flag raising in honor of the milestone.

Over 150 historic American flags were raised individually at the museum.

Wilmington-area members of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps raised the flags honoring navy service members dating back to 1775.

According to the museum, the young cadets lifting each flag over the ship creates a moment where legacy, service and the future of the navy come together.

Flags flown over the ship can be purchased online. Each flag comes with a certificate of authenticity and benefits education along with preservation programs at the museum.
