WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — A major bounce back campaign for UNCW women’s soccer came full circle on Thursday as the Seahawks pitched a home shutout over Hofstra 2-0.

UNCW not only improves to 10-3-2 on the year to surpass their win total from the last two years combined, but a Charleston loss also gave the Seahawks the CAA South Division title.

At the 9:05 mark of the 1st half, Ava Vaughan raced a Pride defender before beating the keeper short side to break the ice.

That was followed up 2:15 later with a dump in by Rachel Fry that ended up in a spot that the keeper couldn’t reach, resulting in the junior captain’s first career collegiate goal.

“I’m telling you, from the top to the bottom, we’ve just had defense like crazy,” Fry said. “We’ve had shutouts. Today, we had a shutout against a team that is third in the league of the North. We’re just on the top of the top right now. We’re feeling that high and we feel amazing. It’s a really good feeling.”

UNCW is the only CAA team without a loss in conference play.
