Man arrested after shooting near Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Onslow County deputies responded to a shooting that occurred early Sunday afternoon.

Around 1:30 pm, deputies responded to a 911 call of someone having been shot near the intersection of Burgaw Highway and Holly Shelter Road, south of Jacksonville.

One person was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was taken to the Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune.

43-year-old James Lewis Wells has been arrested in connection with the shooting, with help from the Pender County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The investigation remains active at this time.
