Southport firefighters go pink, donate $10K for breast cancer awareness

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Members of the Southport Fire Department donated $10,000 to the Dosher Memorial Foundation.

The donation is in support of the fundraising efforts for the new mammography scanner.

The Fire Department annually supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October by donning pink shirts and badges.

The department also reminds everyone to schedule their annual breast exams.

Fire Chief Charles Drew says early detection is key.

“Early detection is paramount in survival of the fatal disease, so schedule your appointment today” says Chief Drew.

The Southport Fire Department members held several fundraisers to collect he funds given to the foundation.
