Shallotte man sentenced to at least 5 years in prison

SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County man pled guilty to charges related to a shooting in Shallotte.
A judge sentenced 37-year-old Charles Collins of Shallotte to at least 5 years in prison after he pled guilty to charges of discharging a weapon into occupied property and assault with a deadly weapon intent to kill.
Prosecutors say Collins’ then-girlfriend left his house after he became abusive.
In March, Collins found her at another home, physically assaulted her and fired a shot into the home after he was pushed out the back door.
Other adults and a child were inside, but thankfully no one was hurt.
Collins was found a short time later by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and the gun was found on his bed.
